Maquoketa Art Experience Activities Coordinator
Reports to Maquoketa Art Experience Board Of Directors [Board President]
Full-Time employment consisting of 30 – 40 hours per week.
Position Available August 2010

Maquoketa Art Experience (MAE), a non-profit organization, invites applications for the position of Activities Coordinator from current Iowa residents.  Maquoketa Art Experience (MAE) is working to turn downtown storefronts into studios, galleries, and workshop spaces for visiting and resident artists.  Our exhibition space is designed to house thematic shows that will be created in collaboration with visiting, regional, and resident artists as well as with pieces created by participants during workshops.  MAE hosts a wide variety of programs and workshops for all interested participants of any skill level.  Two years of non-profit coordination, art gallery or related experience is preferred but not essential.  Salary range $25,000 to $28,000 depending on credentials.  Applications will be accepted until August 8, 2010.

MAE is located in Maquoketa, Iowa just 40 miles north of the Quad Cities and 30 miles south of Dubuque.  With a population of 6,000, residents enjoy a small town atmosphere while still having access to larger cities.  The county seat of Jackson County, Maquoketa is known for its community pride, picturesque beauty, historical sites, abundant recreational opportunities, and quiet residential setting. 

1. The Activities Coordinator will be responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships within the community and the developing Eastern Iowa Art Corridor to create strategies that will increase interest in art within the community and its visitors.
2. Should be an energetic, well-rounded, people-oriented person with great organizational skill along with an appreciation and understanding of art.  Fundraising experience will be helpful.
3. Flexible hours will be required.
4. Specific Job Responsibilities:
1)    Coordination and promotion of activities such as weekly art classes, periodic workshops, events, and exhibitions.
2)    Grow and coordinate membership base and organize a volunteer base to assist with MAE activities and exhibits.
3)    Recruit future workshop instructors and continue to promote downtown Maquoketa as a place for artists to live, work, and prosper.
4)    Manage and update in a timely fashion the Maquoketa Art Experience web site and other promotional materials.
5)    Assist qualifying artists with housing and work space to meet their professional and personal needs.
6)    Develop, promote, and expand the Eastern Iowa Art Corridor experience.  Collaborate with other entities to promote events and activities in this region.
7)    Prepare and plan for the permanent exhibition of “Portrait of Maquoketa” and its operation.
8)    Assist artists with the sale of their work and other gift shop items, maintaining records of sales, coordinating volunteers in order to maintain regular business hours 11:00AM to 7:00PM Tuesday through Sunday.
9)    Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, and MS Power Point software. 
10)     Possess a fundamental knowledge of the Internet and how to search and find content related information.  Should also be prepared to learn and utilize emerging technology such as Twitter, and Facebook.
11)     Contribute to and oversee the creation of a forward looking business plan focusing on long term financial stability.

Maquoketa Art Experience is revitalizing downtown Maquoketa, Iowa
by supporting the development of a thriving arts community.

Maquoketa Art Experience (MAE) is working to turn downtown storefronts into studios, galleries, and workshop spaces for visiting and resident artists.  A newly opened exhibition space is designed to house thematic shows that will be created in collaboration with visiting, regional, and resident artists.  The exhibition space at 124 S. Main St. is open Thursday & Friday from 2-8pm, Saturday 12-5pm and Sunday 12-6pm.

Accomplished artists are invited to apply for residencies.  Short-term residencies can last for one week to a year, with MAE offering partially to fully funded storefronts to select artists.  Support for permanent residency is also considered.  Click here to see works by our current resident artists.
